In vivo, intrinsic kinematics of the foot and ankle
نویسندگان
چکیده
Background There are obvious problems involved in the accurate description of movement of the intrinsic bones within the foot and ankle. The 26 small bones are difficult, if not impossible to individually represent with standard skin mounted markers for motion analysis [1,2]. This international research collaboration has performed a number of studies in which invasively inserted intracortical pins are used for anchoring reflective markers, thereby providing a direct representation of the kinematics of the individual segments.

Objective Stroke occurs when the supply of blood to the brain is either interrupted or reduced. The clinical presentation varies from minor neurological symptoms to severe deficits, depending on the location and the size of the brain lesion. Hemiparesis is one of the most striking features in the acute phase. Many other deficits may also be present, including postural imbalance. All persistent ...
متن کاملEvaluation of a Viscoelastic Ankle-Foot Prosthesis at Slow and Normal Walking Speeds on an Able-Bodied Subject
Objectives: This paper describes further improvement and preliminarily evaluation of a novel viscoelastic ankle-foot prosthesis prototype. The objective was to control the ankle hysteresis at slow and normal walking speeds. Methods: Inspired by the ankle biomechanics, in which the hysteresis differs based on the gait speeds, a manually damping control mechanism imbedded in the prosthesis for...
متن کاملIn vivo talocrural and subtalar kinematics during nonweightbearing and weightbearing dorsiflexion-plantarflexion activities
Introduction Understanding of the effect of weightbearing on the kinematics of the subtalar and talocrural joints is critical for the diagnosis and treatment of foot and ankle disorders. However, precise kinematics of these joints during dynamic activities in vivo is not well studied. The purpose of this study was to compare in vivo kinematics of these joints during nonweightbearing and weightb...
متن کاملDesign and Evaluation of an Articulated Ankle Foot Orthosis with Plantarflexion Resistance on the Gait: a Case Series of 2 Patients with Hemiplegia
Ankle-foot orthoses (AFOs) have been described to have positive effects on the gait biomechanics in stroke patients. The plantarflexion resistance of an AFO is considered important for hemiplegic patients, but the evidence is still limited. The purpose of this case series was to design and evaluate the immediate effect of an articulated AFO on kinematics and kinetics of lower-limb joints in str...
